Common sense thinking would suggest that organizations are places where communication happens, but that’s actually not the case; Organizing is a process created by people communicating, and then that organizing affects how those same people communicate and work together. It’s a system that creates itself and recreates itself every day! Understanding the nuts and bolts of how communication in organizations works is key to building responsive, healthy, and successful workplaces.

Below are some of my works and research into organizational communication, as well as some documents I’ve developed for organizational knowledge.

From a Blizzard to an Avalanche: Responding to a Corporate Culture of Abuse [PDF]

Detailing a “frat-boy culture” rife with drunkenness, sexual harassment, assault, and systemic racism and discrimination, the State of California sued once beloved game developer Activision-Blizzard in 2021. In this work I analyze the lawsuit’s arguments, Activision-Blizzard’s inadequate response, and how management and HR should be responding.

Adapting to the Pandemic: How Organizations Adapt by Going Virtual [PDF]

The ongoing COVID pandemic is forcing businesses around the world to reconsider their relationships with work and the spaces where work happens. In order to stay in business, some have had to “temporarily” transition to hybrid or fully remote environments. In this whitepaper I argue how organizations lagging behind can make forward-thinking changes and why they should.

Organizational Analysis

Analysis of a Radiology Company [PDF]

Following four months of observational research, I take a look at the workings of a hybrid/remote medical organization. Elements of the project include how the organization is “created” through communication, its system of relationships, detailed systems of workflows, and artifact analysis.
